1. Student orientation The student orientation will be conducted by the lecturer on the first day of the student’s course. The lecturer will introduce students to the Director, the Manager, all lecturers and student coordinator in their programs, and advise contact times and details. During student orientation, the lecturer and the Manager will use the course overview and will go through the Student Handbook and explain all relevant policies and procedures to the student, including the attendance policy for overseas students and academic performance. Weekly and long term timetables will be issued, along with the list of competencies to be studied during each course. The Manager will check the details of each student’s course to ensure that there is mutual understanding about the programs being undertaken. The Manager will check that provision has been made for special student needs. Latecomers will attend orientation when they arrive and will be informed by the assistant principal. The lecturer then will take students on a tour of the premises. The following topics will be discussed: 1. Welcome from the Director and Staff of the College 2. Living in Australia 3. Accommodation 4. Finances and financial matters and advice 5. Student contact person and counselling services 6. Health and your Medicare card 7. Attendance requirements 8. Penalties for non-compliance with attendance requirements and maintenance of satisfactory academic progress 9. Your student visa 10. Your responsibilities as a student and maintaining your student visa status 11. College refund policy 12. Dispute resolution 13. Use of personal information, the College and the Government 14. The course 15. Competency based learning and assessment 16. Recognition of prior learning (RPL)/Recognition of current competencies 17. Student records 2. Student Support - ITAGC College ensures that upon arrival, overseas students have access to information and counselling services in the following areas:

As students might undergo changes in their personal and professional lives, it is ITAGC College’s commitment to provide them with considerable support in terms of guidance and encouragement. That support is part of ITAGC College’s organisational culture.
The policy establishes an operating framework and guidelines for the delivery of guidance and support for students, on a needs basis. It is intended for students in need of: * academic course planning and progress * referrals to health care or professional counselling services * career guidance and further study * initial personal and course related guidance - ITAGC College will make provision for the guidance and support needs of students via the following providers:

About the student support providers 1. Director will conduct the orientation session for new students and explain ITAGC College Policy and Procedure through the Student Handbook as well as all the relevant college staff available for counselling and guidance supports. The Director will be a reference point for students having difficulties with their courses and will provide career guidance. 2. The Manager will direct the overall course planning process, interpret regulations and assist Instructors with such matters as student transfer of credit, etc. The Manager will provide course planning processes for students in conjunction with the Student Coordinator. The Manager will involve the relevant lecturing staff to assist students with course directions within the programs. The Manager will also be a reference point for students having difficulties with their courses and will provide career guidance. 3. The Student Coordinator will provide support for a range of issues including personal issues. The Student Coordinator will also provide additional support in all aspects of academic course planning including time management and study difficulties and career advice. Liaison and communication will be features of the work of the Student Coordinator. The student coordinator accepts the limits of his/her capability and refers students to other specialist professionals in the counselling field as required. 4. The Lecturer will provide all the academic help to assist you to achieve your short or long term personal goals; to support students in need of advice and guidance in problem solving. To clarify academic issues this may be causing difficulties for individual students. To act as a referral agent if a student needs assistance in making contact with the Manager. To be a good listener when a student needs to “talk a problem out” 5. Counselling Professionals: ITAGC College will act as a contact for any medical or counselling emergencies or meeting the day-to-day health needs of students such as first aid. ITAGC College will provide an assessment and referral service linked to other health care professionals in the wider medical and counselling community. Students are made aware of the counselling service available during Orientation and in the Student Handbook. Should any student require the counselling services of the Manager or Lecturer they must make an appointment with the Administration Office. Counselling duties will include: - Meeting with students with identified special needs on initial intake to assess their requirements across semesters
- Liaising with academic staff regarding students identified or suspected of special needs (teaching arrangements, special consideration for examinations etc) regarding special arrangements for teaching and assessment.
- Making recommendations, based on policy guidelines, regarding special considerations required for special needs students
- Informing students in writing of special examination arrangements once approved
- Providing support for students with transient or ongoing life stresses on an as-needs basis
- Providing assessment, referral and liaison service for students with more serious mental health issues or those in need of longer term support
- Investigation of appropriate referral sources/support organizations for students with different needs
- Providing additional academic support for students with special needs where possible (noting that academic support should also be provided through the academic support service)
- Provision of academic support services to students with personal or psychological difficulties which make accessing academic support problematic
- Appointment with the Director or Manager for counselling purposes
- It’s best if appointments offered by the service are kept or give sufficient notice of their inability to attend.
- Provide accurate information to the counsellor regarding relevant background and history information
- Inform ITAGC College of any pre-existing disabilities either on enrolment (preferable), or on request for special consideration
- Provide the counsellor with accurate information regarding their requirements for special consideration
- Students are informed both verbally and in writing of their rights of confidentiality upon first contact with the service. If it is necessary to disclose personal information, students are asked to complete the Permission to Use Personal Information Form, which specifies both what, will be disclosed and to whom.
- The College Counsellor is responsible for follow up of students to the greatest extent possible given time constraints. More specifically, follow-up is recommended in the following areas:
- Students with special needs
- Following exams or assessments. The Assessor will meet with students to assess how successful the special arrangements were following exams or assessments and determine if there were any difficulties with implementation
- Semester start. The Assessor will touch base with special need students at the start of a new semester to re-assess ongoing needs.

Accommodation support - ITAGC staff may assist students in accommodation issues, but have no obligation to provide accommodation to students.
3. Medical Problems - Please advise the Instructors if you have any medical problems which may affect your studies (e.g. asthma or diabetes).
Please also advise us of any special needs you may have in relation to your medical condition and the action we should take if you are suddenly taken ill with your condition.
4. Student ID Cards - Students who are undertaking courses are eligible to be supplied with a student identification card.
To obtain this card please provide a passport sized photograph to your Instructor, who will arrange for a card to be issued. This card provides evidence that you are attending a training course as a full time student. An extra $5 dollar replacement fee will be charged for your new student ID Card.
5. Sending and receiving mail - Mail may be sent through the care of ITAGC College. Please see the Administration Office to collect your mail.
6. Equipment and textbooks - You will be advised during your initial interview and application whether you will need to purchase text books for your course. If text books are required, you will need to pay for these and collect them from ITAGC College prior to commencing your course.
All students must provide their own pens, pencils, white ink etc. All students beginning the Diploma of Sport (Development) in Golf must have with them a full competition set of golf clubs and golf bag. If students do not have these the college staff will direct students to appropriate golfing shops or pro-shops where such equipment may be purchased. No student can commence the course without this necessary equipment. Appropriate golf shoes and clothing must also be supplied by the student for their personal use. As much time is spent on the golf course students are urged to provide themselves with suitable head wear and sun screen for protection from the sun. Tennis students must provide their own tennis racquet(s), tennis shoes and appropriate sports clothing and headwear.
7. Student Notices - All messages for students will be placed on the student notice board in the refreshment area. Please ensure that you check this board regularly, as we are unable to find individual students unless the message is urgent.
8. College Hours - On your first day at ITAGC College, you will be provided with a Timetable and Training Schedule. You may be required to train during any of 2 sessions: 9 am - 1 pm or/and 1 pm - 5 pm. Students will usually have a minimum of 20 hours scheduled contact class/training time in a week. There may be times when students may be expected to be at the golf range or other training facility at an earlier time in the morning. Coaches will advise.
9. Classroom Courtesy Please turn off mobile phones and all music instruments prior to entering class. We also request that you do not chew gum, bring lollies in the classroom, swear, spit, sleep in class or generally behave in a manner which disrupts the learning of other members of the class. Please do not bring alcohol onto the premises. We also do not allow skateboards, scooters or roller blades. 10. Dress During all practical training time and during match play, tournaments or whilst on the golf course the following dress is required: ·ITAGC College training T-shirt ·Dress as required for the specific golf Club ·Appropriate training wear for other sports ·Appropriate and seemly swim wear for the pool and training ·Shorts or long pants where appropriate ·Appropriate shoes and socks ·Hat ·Don’t forget sunscreen ·Jumper/sweatshirt if cold ·Smart casual or track suite for lectures ·If unsure ask the coach ·Bare feet are not acceptable except at the pool Outside of sports training time: Clean casual dress is to be worn at all times when you are not training. 11. Absence from Class - If you are unable to attend your class, please advise your Instructor by phone at least ½ hour before the commencement of class time. If you are aware that you will be late to class, please advise the Instructor if possible. Students who are away for two or more days require a medical certificate.
- International students are reminded that a condition of their visa is to attend class for a minimum 80% class time.
- The College is obliged by law to report to Australian Government Authorities any student who fails to maintain a satisfactory attendance record. Such a breach of visa conditions may lead to withdrawal of your Student Visa.
- Full time attendance is a mandatory condition of your visa.
- If student attendance on an aggregate basis is approaching an overall attendance of only 80% the student Administrative office will write to the student and arrange for the student to be interviewed by the Director, Principal or Academic Director. At this counselling session the student will be firmly reminded of their obligations to meet the 80% attendance requirement of their visa conditions.
- If after such counselling the student attendance does not improve or slips they will be issued with a breech letter requiring them to attend an urgent subsequent interview.
- If their attendance has fallen below the required 80% they will be informed that they have been reported to DIMA and that they will have to attend before an Australian DIMA Officer within 28 days in order to explain the Breech(s).
- A record of student counselling will be placed on the students file.
12. Materials Brought Into the Examination Venue Students may bring into the examination venue any materials considered necessary by ITAGC College to complete the examination. This includes writing equipment (eg pens, pencils, erasers etc) as these will not be supplied, approved bilingual dictionaries and any study materials and/or equipment indicated on the examination paper. Writing materials should be contained only in a clear plastic bag. Pencil cases will not be permitted.Scribbling paper is not provided – ‘rough’ work should be done on the reverse side of pages of the answer booklet. Candidates are not permitted to remove any examination question papers from the examination room or any unused material unless stated on the examination paper. |
